Betty is a licensed clinical social worker. She is a graduate of Belhaven College and Jackson State University where she received her Bachelor’s degree in the Arts and Master’s degree in Social Work. Before coming to Life Works Counseling, she worked as a social worker for four years at the Mississippi Domestic Violence Legal Help Line, and as a therapist for five years at the Center for Violence Prevention in Jackson, MS.  She has a Level 1 Certification in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) Intensive Training and Jim Knipe Training in EMDR Methods for treating complex PTSD and Dissociative Personality Structure. She is also trained in integrative treatment of Complex PTSD and Dissociative Disorders, grief counseling, and trauma counseling. Betty is a certified MS State Board of Social Workers and Marriage & Family Therapist, a certified Sex Addiction & Trauma Therapist (CSAT), a certified Multiple Addiction Therapist (CMAT), and a certified equine therapist.

She has experience in working with individuals, couples, and families through issues such as addiction, grief, depression, anxiety, eating disorders, trauma, and dissociative identity disorders. Betty specializes in helping individuals recognize, identify, and utilize the power they have to change their own lives. She focuses on the full range of physical, emotional, mental, social, spiritual and environmental influences that affect a person’s health to create a personalized therapeutic strategy that considers your unique needs.
